| A consortium of more than 120 taxonomists sent a jointly signed memorandum in April to the presumed employer of Mr. Makhan, the University of Utrech to formally register a complaint about his numerous, detrimental publications in zoological nomenclature. When Mr. Makhan received word of this effort, he sent harassing and insulting e-mails to several of us, which he presumed (correctly, in most cases) were some of the signers. Consequently, I am not posting the original letter here to shield others from potential harassment although anyone wishing to see it may contact me.
The University informed us that Mr. Makhan is not a "Dr.", a prefix he commonly uses to mislead others about his academic credentials. Mr. Makhan is not now nor has ever been employed as an entomologist with the University of Utrecht. He was a contracted technician in the Herbarium. The contract with that company is now being terminated.
Of course, Mr. Makhan will likely continue to try to publish more of these poor quality works and curators and journal editors should remain vigilant to ensure he is not so easily able to wreck havoc in taxonomy.
